Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some answers to questions our users ask.

This is to comply with SA Health so we can provide a COVID-safe environment. Instead of walking on-masse like we have done before, everyone will set off for their Walk individually or with their team, at staggered times throughout the morning. This will keep everyone safe.

North Adelaide: Please arrive 10 – 15 minutes before your start time.

Elizabeth Vale: please arrive any time after 9.30am. We will be starting at 10am sharp!

Yes – ask your family to call the Foundation on 08 8239 0119 and we will manually sign them up so you can walk together. We have held back a few places for walkers who miss out on their preferred time slot when signing up online.

Your donation and fundraising will bring Mary Potter Care to end-of-life patients in Mary Potter Hospice or the Mary Potter Northern Supportive Care Unit.

It is the specialised medical team of caring doctors and devoted nurses - as well as family counsellors, other allied health professionals and dedicated volunteers. It is a family member being able to stay comfortably overnight with a loved one. It is having a toasted sandwich and cappuccino any time of the day or night from the well-stocked Family Kitchen. It is having a relaxing facial, massage, or manicure. It is art, puzzles, pet therapy and music that help alleviate anxiety, restore calm and inspire creativity. It is a celebration with loved ones, or the surprise of a special meal & drink treats when families least expect it.

Palliative care is poorly funded. Therefore we call upon support from the community to help fund what medical insurance does not cover. This ensures everyone has access to the very best care, when it matters most.

  • Unfortunately, you will not be able to sign up for the Walk on the day. Registrations close at 6pm online on the day before the Walk for Love. This is to ensure that the number of people on-site remains within the maximum allowed by SA Health for the venue.
  • For the North Adelaide Walk only, you will be asked to choose one of four timeslots to start your Walk. Please arrive, gather your friends and family, and then line up as a group to start your Walk within the hour you chose. Individuals and groups will then leave intermittently, rather than en-masse.
  • There will be less activities at the venue this year. This is to minimise the number of people on-site. However, we don’t want you to rush off! Please take a moment to reflect on your Walk - and support our fundraising BBQ and cake stall before you leave for home.
  • We will have sanitisers and wipes available at the event and at all water stations.
  • Precautions will be taken to wipe down pens, tables etc.
  • A COVID Marshal will be on-site to ensure everyone is doing the right thing.
  • A ‘Do your Own’ Walk option has been created for anyone who feels uneasy about attending an organised event.

There is plenty of free street parking around both venues. At North Adelaide there is a drop-off zone – look for the flags.

There is no registration fee!

All we ask is when you sign-up you make a gift from your heart. These donations will ensure that each patient and their family receive care that is individual, meaningful, compassionate and loving. Children under 16 are not expected to make a gift.

We would love you to go one step further, to do something extra special, and fundraise among your friends, family and colleagues. Please consider asking them to support you taking part in the walk.

It is easy to register online. Simply click here. If you need help registering please contact Morgan on 08 8239 0119 (during business hours, or leave a message and we will call you back) and we can talk you through the process.

If you cannot attend the walk, but would like to remember someone close to your heart, Walk for Me is available. Simply make a donation to ‘Walk for Me’. A student will walk for you, proudly wearing a bib bearing the name of your loved one. You will receive a photo of the student, after the event.

If you do not want to attend one of our Walks but you would like to do something to support Mary Potter Hospice or the Mary Potter Northern Supportive Unit, you can do your own walk. Register, make a small gift, and walk whenever you wish. If you are prepared to go ‘the extra mile’ and fundraise, you still can. A fundraising page will be created automatically when you sign up, which you can then share with family and friends.

The 3km route is wheelchair, pram and dog friendly and takes approximately 30 minutes.

The 7km route (North Adelaide only) is slightly more challenging and takes just over an hour.
